Nathan Dorlon was raised on Long Island by his uncle, George Thurston, and went south in the 1840’s . First, he served as a longshoreman and after his marriage he engaged in the grocery business in Cedar Point, AL. He owned the Dorlon General Store which sat on a plot of land which is now where the north end of the Dauphin Island Bridge begins. He was the first to start a terrapin farm at Cedar Point, AL. He shipped his terrapin to New York, Philadelphia, and Washington. The town of Dorlon, AL was named after him. (This today is more than likely around Coden/Alabama Point/Heron Bay area.
